Residential Ironwork Courses in Italy

Laurence Love has been working as a practising Blacksmith / Wrought - ironsmith since 1966. In 1979 he designed and ran the ironwork courses for CoSira/Rural Development Commission. First in Wimbledon and later in Salisbury, Wiltshire.  For the next seven years he instructed working smiths and trainees, both in house and in their own workshops, all over England. From 1985 he ran his own business in Wiltshire producing hand-forged commissions for clients in Great Britain and also exporting to other countries. He is now living and working in Marche, Italy offering courses to anyone who is interested in the creative craft of the wrought ironsmith.

THE COURSES

Course no.1: Basic Principals of Blacksmithing:

Drawing down / Round and square points / Upsetting / Punching / Fire welding / Chain Link Making / Skills needed to make Tongs, Chain links and Pokers

Course no.2:  Simple ornamental ironwork:

Ribbon scrolls / Split fishtail scrolls / Fire welding / Twisting / Tenons / Skills needed to make a Hanging basket bracket

Course no.3  Animal heads and Paper weights:

Rams Head / Horses Head / Owl Paperweight / Snail Paperweight

Course no.4::  Leafwork

Water leaves / Tendrils / Branch welded scrolls

OTHER COURSES DETAILS

• Advanced Courses can be arranged on request
• All courses are held during the mornings
• 4 x 4 hourly sessions from 9.00am till 1.00pm
• The content of each course may vary according to each individual's preference
• The courses are designed to be both fun and instructive and are open to anyone who can lift a hammer (not suitable for children)
• Safety glasses are provided and must be worn throughout the classes
• All materials are provided
• All items produced can be packed into a suitcase
• Please bring old/scruffy clothes
